Day 17: Refuge | Freedom & Flow 2025
As we navigate a world where persecution, discrimination, and aggression are more blatant than ever, our need for safe and protected spaces is even more important. We all need places where we can let our guard down, be our vulnerable and authentic selves, and be met with love and understanding. These spaces are needed not just at home but within our broader families, our friend groups, and our workplaces—spaces where we can "seek cover" and be reminded that we are both seen and safe.
But even if those safe spaces seem hard to find, there is a refuge we can always turn to. God’s Word in today’s passage reminds us: “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.” – Psalm 46:1
In God, we have a place where we can take cover and regain our strength, even in the midst of trials and troubles. In His presence, we don’t have to pretend or perform. We can bring Him our fears, tears, and challenges, knowing He meets us with grace and love, always. With Him, we can stop "being on" and just be.
And as we appreciate His refuge, let’s also consider how we can create safe spaces for others. How can we embody God’s love and protection in our relationships, offering safety, empathy to those we care for––our kids, our coworkers, our teams, and those we lead in other capacities. Ask yourself: Am I creating the same kind of refuge that I need for those in my care?
